I'm feeling soft. My body needs to be pushed. I've decided that I am going to train for a duathlon.
I first fancied thoughts of competing in a mini triathlon but the day I can swim 30 laps is the day I can run a 4 minute mile. Not gonna happen. I don't care how long I train, how committed I am to the program, I will NEVER be able to swim 750 meters in open water.
The event I will be training for is the Philadelphia's Women's Triathlon/Duathlon.
It consists of a 2 mile run, a 17 mile bike, and ends with a 3.1 mile run. I am fairly confident that I can train for this and be ready by July.
The website is going to post a training program mid Feb which runs from 18 to 20 weeks. I've no idea of what the training schedule looks like but I can't imagine it being more time intensive then the 1/2 marathon training.
My main concern is that I don't have the necessary equipment. I have a mountain bike versus a road bike which is typically used in these types of events. The last thing I want to do is dish out huge dollars for a new bike so I will be searching the net for a very basic, halfway decent, affordable model.
I'd love one of those fancy $5000.00 titanium bikes but this is more my speed. Love the red.
Though Val isn't going to sign up for this event she's going to follow my training routine which will be good for the both of us. She wants to add some consistency to her workouts and I'd like someone to bike with.
Let the training commence!!!
